The makers of the Othro Evra birth control patch have issued an important health warning about the product and change to the labelling of the patch. Studies show that a woman using the patch will be exposed to about 60 percent more estrogen than she would using typical birth control pills. This increased exposure can significantly increase the risk of blood clots and stroke. In July an Associated Press story linked over a dozen deaths last year to the patch, as a result the FDA has required Ortho McNeil to include a warning on the label.
