Latex and Non Latex Condoms

Tuesday January 31, 2006

It is thought that between 1%-6% of the general population (and 8%-12% of regularly exposed health care workers) have a latex allergy.

In the 1990s several manufacturers began producing non latex condoms specifically for people with latex allergies. There are now four different male non latex condoms and one female non latex condom made from polyurethane (although two brands are not available in the U.S). These non latex condoms are often more than twice the cost of latex condoms, and usually come with confusing warnings regarding their effectiveness.
