FDA Approves Plan B for Sale Over the Counter

Thursday August 24, 2006

After a long, bumpy road, the FDA have finally done right (sort of) by Plan B, approving it for over the counter sale to women 18 years and older. Apparently shares in Barr Laboratories (the manufacturer of Plan B) are already up two percent in trading. The company has released a fancy press package with videos and more. i have mixed thoughts about the morning after pill being sold over the counter. It is sending different signals.
It is telling young children it is ok to go have sex, and not even worry about getting any birthcontrol, and/or worry about SIDS..(i know that this doesn’t provent it) but it is sending the OK message. And the kids don’t know that they are actually in the event of killing something that could actually have a life. I think it is good for people whom are on the welfare and other systems that already have alot of children that they do not and can not take care of.

There’s a good and bad to all things. The good thing is that if there is an honest accident like a condom that broke, a woman can choose to use this to prevent the obviously unwanted pregnancy. The downside is some folks are gonna use this as an excuse NOT to protect themselves and their partner(s) which will certainly lead to an increase in STDs and unwanted pregancies since there are very specific guidelines for use, which some will not follow to the letter.
