A recent Reuters headline which I came across on MSNBC.com informed me that "Condoms a big problem for men in India." In contemplating all the things that are wrong with the headline alone I was sadly reminded of how so-called news editors are mostly men who giggle at the word penis, and how they are so enamored with their juvenile distractions they manage to forget not only how to do math, but also how to not be racist.
The piece is a study on what's wrong with both reporting on sex but also so much sex research, and why there's no satisfactory answer to the question, what's an average penis size?

you are absolutely right, there journos are just crap when it comes to mathematics and analysis. the big prob with today’s 12th grade fail journos is that they think they are expert in every and so a 12th grade fail editor and comments on each and every research or stats without analyzing it up to a level of a graduate. anyways great work by you…cheers

I’m sorry, but if it’s true, it’s not racist. I’m not saying it IS true for a fact – I don’t know for a fact. But if it IS true, I’m sorry that Indian men get the short end of the stick, but it is what it is. Call it racist if you want, but I don’t let political correctness get in the way of truth.
However, if it’s all one big fat LIE, then these publications owe the entire country of India one huge apology.
First of all Indian men are caucasian (the same race as men from the Middle East and Europe). Therefore there is no physiological difference aside from skin colour (because of geography), culture/religions, and nationality. Secondly, it was not a scientific fact only a survey of their opinions ( they didn’t know how to properly use condoms i.e., condoms slip off if not rolled on properly). Does anyone for a minute believe the recent survey in which French men on average claim to have the largest penises? Bigger than Americans, British, Germans, Africans etc. I don’t think so! And once again it was survey not scientific fact and they’re the same race as all caucasians so the differences are individual not racial. As Mr. Silverberg stated the sample was also small and from a particular area of villages and not representative of all Indian men i.e. men from the Punjab, Mumbai, Dheli, Bengal, Kerala etc. Men from the land of the Kama Sutra need not feel inferior in anyway shape or form, but please learn how to use condoms because you’ve got a billion people and counting in India alone!
He makes a very intelligent comment. He’s right, there’s as much variety within ethnic groups as there is between them. Think about it — the tallest members of one ethnic group are more comparable in height to the tallest members of other ethnic groups than they are to the shortest members of their own group. Also, regarding penis size, it’s already been demonstrated in prior studies that penis size is not correlated to height, foot size, nose shape, etc. Therefore, you cannot predict a person’s penis size except by actually measuring the penis. The challenge there is that many people do not measure the penis the same way, so two people might measure the same penis and come away with very different measurements. If you measure the penis from the tip of the penis head and then down the bottom side of the penis to the the point where the erectile tissue ends near the anus, then you will measure about 2-4 inches longer than if you measure from the tip of the penis head down along the top side of the penis to the pelvic bone where pubic hair begins. If the penis is fully erect, it will likely be a couple inches longer than partially erect, which in turn will naturally be a couple inches longer than a penis in the flaccid state. In fact, the biggest predictor of relative penis size between any two men is the degree to which each is erect or flaccid at the time of measurement. Of course, this means that one guy might be bigger at one moment, and then another guy might be bigger the next moment, depending on their relative degree of being erect or flaccid at the time of measurement.
Additionally, the depth of a woman’s vagina extends and retracts and so a vagina too is not a fixed size. Prior studies have reported that the average woman’s vagina in its most relaxed state is only around 2.5 inches deep to the end. However, when aroused, it can extend and stretch to deep lengths. What this means is that most men can actually fill a vagina because the average well-functioning vagina adjusts to fit whatever size penis is inserted. No wonder so many women say they don’t care about penis size! Now, of course, the psychological aspect is different and that’s why they say great sex is all in the head. Women who get anxious or fearful about a larger penis might allow the power of suggestion to make them prefer smaller penises if they get uptight when having sex with a partner who she believes to have a penis on the larger side. Alternatively, a woman who gets psychologically excited just about the thought or image of a larger penis might actually experience a stronger orgasm when having sex with a penis that she believes to be one the larger side. Again the experience is aided by the power of suggestion. The universal truth is that men with a functional penis can have great sex with a female partner regardless of her vagina size, and women with a functional vagina can have great orgasms from a partner of any size penis. Humans were evolved that way.
