Benefits and Safety of Testosterone Cream for Male Sexual Dysfunction Unclear
Researchers behind two recent articles published in the Mayo Clinic Proceedings are calling attention to the fact that physicians don't know nearly enough about the use of testosterone cream to treat male sexual dysfunction for them to be prescribing it as they are.
The authors call for more detailed and wide ranging research both on the safety of testosterone treatment and how effective it actually is in treating male sexual dysfunction. A prepared statement the authors explain that "little research exists demonstrating that testosterone is both safe from the cardiovascular standpoint and effective to treat sexual dysfunction" and they believe that men who are being prescribed testosterone cream would be "thoroughly shocked" to discover how little evidence there is that this treatment is safe or effective.
What is particularly worrying about this is that the use of testosterone creams seems to be driven primarily by the drug companies who manufacture it putting money and pressure behind campaigns encouraging doctors to prescribe the creams.

Great article! A guy friend was given that cream to imcrease his low testostrone levels. It didn’t work. He quit using it. I suggested he get his DHEA level checked. The doctor refused to order it. My friend had to get it done on his own at his cost. The DHEA level was low. When told that, the doctor said it didn’t matter and would not prescribe DHEA. I had my friend start using the OTC DHEA. Amazingly, his testostrone levels rose to normal. The doctor refused to believe it was from the DHEA.
