World Breastfeeding Week

This year, from August 1 to 7 over 120 countries around the world will be celebrating World Breastfeeding Week.

The less prurient among you may wonder why a site about sexuality is talking about breastfeeding, and the more prurient may be waiting for me to use this as an opportunity to promote all my articles about fetishes. The truth lies somewhere in between.

There are, in fact, several connections between sexuality and breastfeeding and specifically between breastfeeding, arousal and orgasm. And, of course, sexuality is about more than having sex, it's about what we do with our bodies, how we feel about our bodies, and how we experience our bodies changing. The experience of breastfeeding (so I've heard) encompasses all of these things and more.

If you're in a position to celebrate this week through direct action, then get out there and show your breastfeeding pride. If you're like me, and just an ally, why not take a few moments to explore the myriad health benefits of breastfeeding, and strike up a conversation this week with someone about it. And if you're a popular sex blog like Fleshbot, I'm sure you can find some appropriately respectful way of calling your readers attention to this important week of health awareness.
