It Isn't Solicitation if I'm a Governor
Given how often U.S. politicians are showing up on the soliciting end of sexual solicitations these days, you might assume this headline is about another closeted Republican who outed himself as a sexual deviant. No such luck. And this solicitation isn't only legal, it's sanctioned by the government. The BBC reports:
The governor of Ulyanovsk region in Russia is offering prizes to couples who have babies in exactly nine months - on Russia's national day on 12 June.Sergei Morozov wants couples to take the day off work to have sex. If a baby is born on national day, they will receive cars, TVs or other prizes.
The piece is accompanied by a photo of this year's winners of a brand new SUV.
Obviously the international press thought this scheme was novel enough to cover. And at first I thought it was pretty novel, or at least more up front than the "baby bonuses" that Canada used to dole out. But I'm pretty sure I heard a story about another Governor, closer to home, offering to pay people to have sex. I can't remember who that was though...
