Mitch Tepper: Addressing Sexuality and Wounded Warriors
The term "wounded warrior" was formalized by the U.S. government on November 10, 2005, when a program designed to assist injured soldiers and their families, formerly known as the Disabled Soldier Support System, became the U.S. Army Wounded Warrior Program.
While many disagree with the term, it’s inarguable that we need more organizations in place to address the needs of soldiers injured in combat and their families. Several organizations address the physical impacts of combat injuries on soldiers. A few focus on the emotional and psychological impact on soldiers and their families; practically none deal with the impact on sexuality and sexual health.
But Mitch Tepper is trying to change all that. As the assistant project director at The Center of Excellence for Sexual Health, Mitch heads up the Center’s Disabilities, Chronic Conditions and Sexual Health Program, as well as their Military Initiative. Through these efforts Mitch and his colleagues are trying to put sexuality on the agenda for Veteran's Affairs and the Department of Defense with an exciting and ambitious agenda.
