FDA Recalls "All Natural" - "Xiadafil VIP" - "Dietary Supplements"
Further proof that you should never purchase any sexual product that has the word "VIP" in product name, the FDA is calling for the recall of Xiadafil VIP distributed by SEI Pharmaceuticals because the product contains "a potentially harmful, undeclared ingredient that may dangerously affect a person's blood pressure and can cause other life-threatening side effects." From the FDA release:
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today requested that SEI Pharmaceuticals, of Miami, Fla., recall all Xiadafil VIP Tabs sold in 8 tablet bottles (Lot # 6K029) or blister cards of 2 tablets (Lot # 6K029-SEI)...These lots of Xiadafil VIP Tabs bear an expiration date of September 2009 (09/09). Xiadafil VIP Tabs are marketed as a dietary supplement for sexual enhancement and able to treat erectile dysfunction (ED)....Although labeled as a dietary supplement and touted as "all-natural," Xiadafil VIP Tabs are an illegally marketed drug that contains a potentially harmful undeclared ingredient. FDA chemical analysis revealed that Xiadafil VIP Tabs contains hydroxyhomosildenafil, which is an analog of sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra, an FDA-approved prescription drug for ED.
This recall follows hot on the heels of an Federal seizure of another "all natural supplement" also claiming to treat erectile dysfunction.
I think it's easy to make jokes about this stuff but really its another indictment of the state of sexual education in the U.S. Men remain ignorant and often desperate to deal with sexual dissatisfaction and instead of having a reliable and responsible government to turn to for straightforward information about their sexuality they turn to infomercials and corner store "cures".
The people making money off this crap remind me of what most sex stores used to be like, raking in profits from the lucrative combination of fear, ignorance, and shame that so many of us have around sex. At least the authorities are taking note of these companies. If only they'd think about doing something more preventative.
