Sex Among Techies
For the past three years I've made the pilgrimage to the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas. Actually three festivals back to back SXSW is absolutely the most fun I've had with my laptop (in public) and consistently an eye opening and creativity boosting experience. The festival begins with the Interactive Festival, featuring over a hundred panel presentations on topics ranging from web design to video games to emerging social issues. In an effort to further democratize their selection process the programmers have put up the over 1000 submissions they received for panels and ask for people to vote for panels they'd like to see (and comment on panel proposals). It's a great way to get a sneak peek at what you can look forward to in March and get involved in the selection process.
I was happy to see over a dozen proposals that include sexuality in some way. Some of the ones I'm excited about include a panel about doing teen sex education online, a gossipy panel about sex lives of the "microfamous", and my favorite panel title, Make it So (Sexy): Lustful Design in Mainstream Science Fiction, which looks at sex related technologies found in mainstream science fiction.
I've submitted a proposal as well about virtual touch and teledildonics called Touching Me Touching You: How We Feel Technology. If you think there's any chance you may attend, why not click through and make your voice heard?
