Christmas Sex Survival Guide

Follow me on:

Coming up with a cutesy blog post about surviving the holidays feels a bit grim when people are actually losing their lives at the hands of holiday shoppers.

But I do believe that sex, in its many forms, can provide a kind of protective effect against the ravages of the holiday season.

The picture we’re shown of the holidays is one of family and friends, food and gaiety. For the lucky among us (and I do believe that it’s partly luck) this is true. But for so many more it isn’t. We may be surrounded by people and still feel completely alone. Or we may simply be alone physically, mentally, emotionally. It’s not a cure all, and it’s not about “loving yourself before others can love you” but I do believe that it’s true to say that, whatever our situation, we could probably all use a little more love. And the kind of love that’s communicated through sexual touch can be powerful. It can come from the touch of another or our own loving touch on ourselves.

While it won’t work for all of you, for some sex (doing it, thinking about it, laughing about it) can offer a little love and peace in an otherwise messed up holiday season. Read on if you think it might work for you.
