What's a Sex Surrogate?

By April 28, 2010

Follow me on:

This is the fifth part in a six part series. If you want the preamble, click here. The point of the series is to introduce you to different sexuality helping professions. If you don't already work in sexuality, it's hard to know where to begin when you either have a sex question, or think you want to make a living working in or around sex. Hopefully this series will give folks some place to start.

Without further ado, today's job title is,

Sex Surrogate

A sex surrogate, or sexual surrogate, is someone who has received training to work in conjunction with a sex therapist, to address sexual concerns or sexual dysfunction with an individual or, less often, with a couple. A sex surrogate is different than a therapist in that they will not have received as much training in therapy and they will work in a "hands-on" way with clients. This may involve them touching clients and having clients touch them, it might involve them being sexual with clients. Sex surrogacy isn't commonly practiced, but there are still some surrogates working and the International Professional Surrogates Association still maintains a website that advertises training and a referral service.

(1) good guy says:

Is male sex surrogate service useful to young beautiful women? Can women use a male surrogate to improve their confidence in the bedroom? How different is a male surrogate to a male escort? I believe it would be an interesting career choice. I am male over 30 years, located in UK.
