Top Sex Questions 2010

By December 27, 2010

Follow me on:

Having worked as a writer online for the past five years I'm more convinced than ever that web traffic is about as good an indication of what people are interested in as hit television comedies are of what people find funny. The relationship between what someone is looking for online, what they type into search engines, and what is eventually presented to them to read or watch is complicated. Search engines have done a good job of marketing their service as one that lets you find what you're looking for. But this is just marketing. They are hardly passive, and hardly impartial.

I think about this every year when I review the statistics from my own site out of interest to see what was most popular over the past year. For the past few years I've been posting the ten most popular sex questions, that is the ten questions that are most often read by About.com visitors. I never know what these questions really tell me. Are they examples of the most pressing sexual questions on people's minds? Are they examples of the kinds of things people think they should be concerned with? Are they just catchy headlines which people click on out of prurient interest? And since About.com welcomes around 70 million visitors each month globally, which people am I even talking about?

Every year I have fewer answers, and more uncertainty. But I still believe that more information is usually better than less, and so here they are, the most frequently read sex questions from 2010. As always, if you've got a question and don't see it below, you can find all the sex Q & A's here. And if you don't find it there, just email me.
