There are some toys that are plain unsafe, but mostly the difference between toys is how they feel, and how long they will last. A vibrator that costs $12 can still feel great, but it might not last as long as one that costs $80.

But keep in mind that there are companies that use “premium pricing”, and a more expensive toy may not be better quality.

The fact is a lot of us either can’t or don’t want to spend that much on a first toy. What’s more important is to make sure that the toy you’re getting is safe, and that you know its limitations.

When you’re shopping around, ask about quality and in particular ask about limitations of the toy.
