In the basic side-by-side sex position you are lying on your side facing your partner who is also lying on their side facing you. While you will generally be "aligned" you may find that one partner needs to be a bit lower to make penetration comfortable. Usually there will be some overlapping of arms and legs in this position.

Pros of the side-by-side facing sex position:

  • This position offers a lot of physical contact. If you are facing each other you have your hands free to roam and touch your partner.
  • For people with hip problems this position can be very comfortable and allow for longer, slower penetration.

Cons of the side-by-side facing sex position:

  • This position does not allow for a lot of leverage for thrusting
  • Both partners may feel like they have less movement and freedom to vary this position
