The world's first crowd funded sex toy, the Duet is a high end vibrator specifically designed for clitoral stimulation, and especially geared to those looking for a more discreet sex toy. At $149 it wouldn't be my recommendation as a first time vibrator, but if you know you like clitoral stimulation, you're looking for something that's as pleasing to the eye as it is to the touch AND you like the idea of a toy that you can charge without anyone noticing and travel with, without raising any eyebrows, the Duet may be worth the investment.
Duet Inside and Out
On the inside the Duet has a dual motors, one in each arm, that offer four modes of vibration at four power levels. Remove the top of the toy from the base and you expose a USB plug that can be plugged into almost any USB port for fast and easy charging (it takes about two hours to fully charge, and the charge provides around 45 minutes of continuous use). More expensive versions come with an 8GB or 16GB USB card in the base. The standard model has a nickel-free electroplated metal base and three button controllers which control the speed and mode of vibration.
The useable body of the vibrator is made from phthalate free silicone. When assembled and fully closed the Duet is waterproof, making it easy to clean and safe for use in the bath or shower.
The Duet comes with a zippered black leather carrying case and a small engraved charm with the word Crave on it.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- The attractive and discreet design is what would make this an ideal choice for some people.
- The Duet is waterproof and rechargeable, long lasting, easy to use, and easy to clean.
- It's powerful and quiet.
- The unique design offers a range of subtle stimulation for people who like their clitoral stimulation just so.
- Comes with a one year warranty from the manufacturer.
Cons
- If you're looking for a clitoral vibrator there are few cons one can think of, other than the cost. But that may well be justified considering the quality and design.
Tips on Using Duet
The vibrations are powerful, so start off on the lowest setting and the standard vibration mode. The vibrations feel different at different parts of the tips. Explore the feeling of the edges of the arms, the end where the two tips meet, and what it feels like to nestle the external clitoral body between the two arms. Some people may like the intensity of allowing the heads of the two tips to close in on either side of the clitoris, although for others this might be too much, or simply annoying.
Put a little lubricant on the toy and it can be used to explore other parts of the body. In particular the Duet can be good for nipple stimulation. Only use water-based lubricants as silicone lubricants can damage the toy.
While the Duet could be used on a partner, the design was clearly rendered with solo use in mind as holding the toy at the right angle to use on someone elses body can be a bit tricky. If you are planning on traveling with the Duet disassemble it before you pack to insure that it doesn't accidentally go off in your bag.
Care and Cleaning
The manufacturer warns users not to pry the two arms apart with any force. They recommend never separating them by more than the width of your pinkie finger.
Safety Issues
The toy will vibrate even if the two parts of the body are not fully connected, and this seems like it could be a potential problem. Be sure that the base clicks into the tips before you use it, especially if you are using it under water.
