The bullet vibrator is one of the oldest designs of vibrator and remains a popular and function alone to this day.

A bullet vibrator refers to a small oval-shaped vibrator designed for external stimulation. Most bullet vibrators have a cord that runs from the motor to an external battery pack/speed control. Bullet vibrators are very similar in function and design to “vibrating eggs,” which are just a bit larger, and look more like eggs than these toys, which look like bullets.

The basic bullet vibrator is made of hard plastic and usually has a seam that runs down the middle, making it unsafe for insertion (the seam is often rough, and fluid could get into the motor through the seam). There are now bullet vibrators that are coated with a soft rubber or cyberskin material and can be safe for penetration, although you should never insert it so far that you need to use the cord to retrieve it.

People who do use the bullet vibrator for penetration do so by putting it in a condom, unrolling the condom, and then inserting it. This way you can use the base of the condom to pull the toy out, and no fluid touches the vibrator.

Like mini vibrators, bullet vibrators can be a great first time toy, and are ideal for exploring external stimulation as you know exactly where the stimulation will be.

Bullet Vibrator Pros:

  • Great for clitoral stimulation or any kind of external stimulation of a small area
  • Inexpensive, good for first time buyers
  • Easy to integrate into partner sex play, to use on a partner or by yourself

Bullet Vibrator Cons:

  • Can be annoying or difficult to hold on to, may make your hand a bit numb
  • Not safe for penetration unless used inside a condom
  • With few exceptions, bullet vibrators are of poor quality and short lifespan

When choosing a bullet vibrator, make sure you don’t overpay. A quick web search shows that the same silver bullet vibrator is sold for between $9-$40 depending on the store or website you shop at. Unless it’s a Japanese motor, you shouldn’t pay more than $20 for most bullet vibrators, and hopefully much less.

Another great feature when looking for a bullet vibrator is to find one that’s waterproof. The battery pack is never waterproof, but some bullet vibrators are made such that the bullet and the cord can be submerged. This makes them much easier to clean.
