A brothel that will only serve female customers (and presumably only employ male prostitutes) is set to open in Valencia, according to a report today in the TimesOnline.
The business is developing out of an existing escort agency (run by a sex worker whose name is poorly translated in the article as “charming Barbara”) that already specializes in offering male prostitutes for female customers. According to the report, while one in four Spanish men have paid for sex with a prostitute, only two percent of women have.
As with the much hyped (and likely to never be opened) "Stud Farm" that Heidi Fleiss claims to be creating in Las Vegas, the jury is out in Spain as to whether women will pay for sex with prostitutes. But the coverage is the same on either side of the Atlantic…no one bothers to talk to the johns (or janes). The Times piece quotes an author about male prostitutes who believes women do see male sex workers, and a sexologist who thinks they won’t (“Women haven’t been educated to see men as objects” is her argument).
One of the interesting things this subject, and the predictable media coverage of it, exposes is the fact that we know very little about the people who support sex work by paying for it. Like those who view pornography, and are always left out of the raging “porn debates,” the clients of sex workers are seldom heard from, and not surprisingly are reluctant to make their voices heard. Yet they are key players in this issue, and I think we’d all benefit from knowing more about the various reasons people pay for sex, what it does for them, whether, for example, you need to “see men as objects” in order to pay them for sex, and how many women currently pay men for sex.
Maybe once a few of these brothels actually open we can send in the anthropologists and see what happens.

I imagine the gentlemen in question will have to be pumped full of Viagra. Unlike female prostitutes, paid studs can’t really fake it with their flabby middle aged customers.
Does this happend in all cultures and all countries? I think it is obvious, but that would mean that men and women have different sexual needs.
